A Year of Contemplation

There is Always More Room to Maneuver Than You Think (Day 218)

Apply yourself to thinking through difficulties - hard times can be softened, tight squeezes widened, and heavy loads made lighter for those who can apply the right pressure.”
Seneca, On Tranquility of Mind, 10.4b

When I was first learning about paganism through the lens of Wicca, my teacher, T. Rhiannon Cotter, told me “... where the mind goes, energy flows.” This “radical pagan idea” made a lot of sense to me, because it’d been something I’d heard for the last decade in my aikido and hapkido training. The victorious see victory, and the successful see success. Set the mind to win, be realistic, then move with purpose toward victory.

However, if our path to victory is seen as narrow, with few options, limited choices, and no room for error, it is not only unrealistic, but it is most certainly setting ourselves up for failure. While the victorious do indeed see victory, they also are constantly seeing potential and options in every moment. They don’t limit Victory’s myriad manifestations. They allow Victory to manifest however Victory chooses.

It’s in the space between seeing situational potential and feeling less-than or not-enough where the truth of today’s topic can be found. There’s always more possibilities than we think…

… even if we already think there are many.
