A Year of Contemplation

Made for Working Together (Day 202)

Cats are made for solo hunting. Dogs are made to be in packs. Birds are made to fly.

When it comes to the AnimalKin, their only obligation is to be what they are, to be themselves.

People, on the other hand, are made for different things… namely to come together and accomplish the together-work that is uniquely ours… and other people are depending on us to engage in that work. Unlike animals who are only obligated to existing in excellence, we have different obligations. Truth be told, we have more obligating and connecting us to one another than we have obligating and connecting us to the gods. Let me say that again:

We are more obligated to one another than we are to the gods.

The delusional and egoic among us will argue that our chief responsibility is reserved for our gods, or our ancestors from long ago… but, simply put, they’re wrong. Our identities are dependent on how we relate to the Kindreds. Our humanity is dependent on how we connect to and work with one another.

We are obligated to work together on the great things that only humanity can accomplish, and it’s crucial that our great works are all about one another, that they’re about uplifting and perfecting the human experience…

… otherwise, we’re not living up to our original design. We wouldn’t be doing what we’re made to do.

Don’t let failure and selfishness be your legacy.

(See y’all tomorrow)

    About the Blog

Awakening the desire to explore Stoicism, and how it relates to his existing beliefs, Rev. William committed to working through the text, The Daily Stoic, a year-long journey to awaken the Stoic mind.
How things are structured can be found in the first post.

    About the Author

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rev. William attended Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado where in 2007 he graduated with a degree in Religious Studies, minoring in Psychology. Currently residing in Longmont, CO, he is one of the Priests and founder of Mountain Ancestors Grove.  He spends his time playing mandolin (and some guitar), writing, engaging in LGBTQIA+ advocacy and education, community service, and sharing a larger vision of how a polytheist perspective can lead to greater human understanding, acceptance, and gods be good, peace.
