A Year of Contemplation

Don’t Abandon Others… or Yourself (Day 198)

7/17/2019

Everyone loves the feeling of being on the same page, right? Sometimes, when we’re hanging out with our friends, we all decide we’re all hungry and start to plan where to go for a meal. It’s easy when we all eat the same things, and thus, getting to the same page lacks complications.

What about when there’s a person among us who’s gluten free, or keto, or paleo, or vegan, or pescatarian, or has some rare dietary restrictions?

Now, there are opposing agendas.

Obviously, we’re not going to be shitty with our friends who eat differently than we do, and coming to a solution won’t be a “real” issue, however, opposing agendas don’t only arise in situations involving friends and food.

When it comes to “where are we going to dinner”, opposing agendas can be resolved easily… but what about more personal and intense topics? Immigration? Firearms? The Queer community?

I’m not sure I can take a “middle of the road” approach just so everyone can come along for the ride. I certainly won’t abandon my principles and beliefs, and I don’t expect others to do so either.

Gonna have to disagree with Marcus on this one. We can only do so much to help others see a different way, but once we’ve done all we can:

Abandon the haters.

Otherwise, they’ll take you down with them.

(See y’all tomorrow)
