A Year of Contemplation

Cut the Strings that Pull your Mind (Day 14)

1/14/2019

Don’t think Mind is THE most important thing? No?

You know who does? I’ll tell ya:

Marketing experts, application developers, food scientists, media outlets… that’s who.

Not to mention gossip, demands of our careers, fear, suspicions, lusts…

Internal AND external, these insidious strings pull on us from all directions.

In fact, we know that at ANY given time there are so many things vying for our mental attention that it’s nigh-impossible to not have to fight to regain control of where our minds are going.

Viktor Frankl, in his work The Will to Meaning
, says that we are, “... pushed by drives, and pulled by values.” Marcus Aurelius wonders if the thoughts that, at that very moment occupy his mind are, “... fear, suspicion, desire, or something like that?” (Meditations, 12.19)

So, instead of being pulled this way and that, we strive to cut the strings that connect us to ego and blind desire.

We must cut the strings.

We must free ourselves.

Now.

(See y’all tomorrow)

So is Stoicism similar to Kohlinar? Is it the path to cut ties with emotion or just your response to emotion? Does passion lie within ego and would you have to walk away from passion to become stoic?

The goal is NOT to detach or do away with emotions and ego (that’s impossible). The goal is to have ultimate awareness of those things, and to never be unconsciously guided by them. Does that help?

Yes, thank you.

How things are structured can be found in the first post.
