A Year of Contemplation

A Strong Soul is Better than Good Luck (Day 244)

In western astrology, there is a concept called a grand trine, which is (I believe) some sort of “cosmic luck” in a particular area of life based on the four classic Greek elements. Essentially, what happens is an equilateral triangle forms on one’s star chart, connecting each of the three signs of an element with 120 degrees angles. If one has a grand trine with the air signs, for example, one would have extreme luck in the areas of communication, mental acuity, etc. In other words, they’d be blessed with the qualities that the element Air brings. This phenomenon is, apparently, a big deal as it’s very rare for things to be that “well-balanced” in one’s star chart.

I happen to have a grand trine in Earth. That being said, I’m terrible with money and finance.

Many people don’t believe in luck, and think that it’s some kind of made up angel, showing up to bless us when good stuff randomly happens. Luck is real, but it’s like a safety net under the trapeze artist… it’s meant to pad us from extreme failure, not to be a way of life. We’re not meant to walk the road of luck, because there IS no luck road. Luck shows up when we accidentally go off road, don’t die, and manage to recover. Luck IS real, AND one isn’t meant to live in a safety net.

Training, practicing, drilling, exercising… these things get results.

In the 1999 sports documentary Choke, a film about the life of the winningest Brazilian Jiu-jitsu champion ever, Rickson Gracie, an interviewer asked him about his undefeated status in over 400 fights. The interviewer, in the middle of a candid moment with Gracie, suggested that Gracie’s record was incredibly lucky, mentioning nothing about his superhuman, preternatural training regime.

Gracie looked at the guy like a sort of kind, mature lion, a gentle, yet ferocious grin upon his face. He then said how he made an observation that he found to be very curious. He told the interviewer that he noticed that the more he trained, the more he disciplined himself, and the more he prepared for victory… the luckier he seemed to become.

(See y’all tomorrow)
