The person who does wrong, does wrong to themselves.
The unjust person is unjust to themselves -
making themselves evil.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 9.4
When we look in the mirror after doing wrong and self-reflect on how we feel about ourselves, we’re likely left with an ill feeling.
If doing good needs more of a motivator than just Summum Bonum, then be selfish about it… do good to avoid the feelings that come along with wrongdoing.
